Tips for Managing Diabetes at Friends'
Other parents: When you were little and at your friends’ for play dates your parents’ friends were responsible for you. Now that you’re a teenager you can take responsibility for yourself. So when you’re hanging out at friends’ make sure to stick to your regular schedule for diabetes management, including testing your blood glucose and eating. The last thing you need is to have your friends’ mom calling your mom because she’s concerned about you.

Hanging with new friends: If you’re at a party or doing homework with a project group from school and don’t feel you necessarily have to (or want to) get into talking a lot about your diabetes, be sure to wear your medical ID. That way if anything does happen, people around you will know what to do.
